3 pillars and 4 steps to data-based decisions

We often talk about making “Data Based Decisions” and in those 3 words we miss out on 2 of the 3 crucial elements for doing this. From good data we need to draw insights. The decision making process should start with asking the right questions which then focuses us on gathering the right data and will shape the conclusions or insights we uncover. Finally, we need to be able to communicate our findings in such a way that we get buy-in to the decisions being made – or provide a structure for objective criticism.

The process for “data based decisions” becomes:

  1. Ask the right questions
  2. Collect relevant data
  3. Use as many different pieces of data as possible to answer the questions
  4. Communicate the findings
The 3 pillars:

3 pillars and 4 steps to data-based decisions.
